Posted : (Monday 2nd July 2007 ) By - Jane (Registered User)Are you looking to build up valuable work experience and skills? Do you enjoy working with older people? Can you offer a regular commitment of one day per week or more?

Age Concern Manchester is looking to recruit volunteers to work in the Advice and Advocacy Department, based in Manchester City Centre. Opportunities are available to volunteer for a variety of areas of work, including:

* Community Development
* Office Work (including filing and data entry)
* Advice Work
* Befriending in Residential Homes
* Publicity and Promotion

They are looking for volunteers who can commit for at least one day per week and who have, or who would like to develop, excellent communication skills, computer skills, an interest in welfare rights and an empathy with older people. In return for this commitment, volunteers are offered support, guidance and training, as well as the opportunity to build up work experience and skills and to make new friends.

Age Concern Manchester is committed to improving the quality of life of older people in Manchester and their carers. The Advice Department offers information and advice to older people on a variety of social welfare issues, and the Advocacy Department helps older people in residential homes to manage their affairs, to effectively express their views and to maintain social contact.

They also work closely with a variety of groups around the city who offer services to older people, give talks to groups about our services and attend and co-ordinate events to promote older people’s services. They are currently developing a database of information about older people’s services across Manchester.

If you are interested in joining our friendly and vibrant team, then please contact Jennifer Carr or Helen Nicklin on 0161 833 3944 for further information or an application pack.
